President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the ceremony of signing the Agreement between Lithuania and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). As of today, Lithuania is an associate member at the largest research organization in the world and is part of the community of the most scientifically advanced countries that contribute to the key objective of CERN – to unite scientists of the world for a common goal. Lithuania is the first among the Baltic states to achieve the membership of CERN. More

Seimas adopted a resolution on enhancing the strategic dialogue between Lithuania and Poland. The document stresses the importance of bilateral and regional cooperation for successful implementation of the summit decisions; emphasises the importance of promoting and jointly developing the transatlantic relations because a strategic partnership with the US is the guarantee of security of the Nordic-Baltic and Central European states; and encourages continuation and development of strategic inter-parliamentary dialogue between Lithuania and Poland based on the principle of mutual respect for sovereignty. More

US payment giant opens unit in Vilnius, “a small version of Silicon Valley”

The US payment terminal systems’ company Harbortouch has officially opened its Vilnius office. The company was founded by the well-known US businessman Jared Isaacman, a multi-millionaire and mogul of both the payment terminal and aviation industries. After the Territory of Vilnius Airport is Reorganised, Passengers will Enjoy a New Transport Scheme

Due to increasing numbers of passengers and flights, Vilnius Airport started reorganising the territory of the arrival terminal. As soon as in 2018, after the implementation of the reconstruction plan, taxi drivers and buses will drop off and pick up passengers at the transportation hub located farther away from the terminal, while access to the airport territory will be controlled by a barrier. More

€200 million investment to place Biotech at the heart of Lithuania’s economy

One of the founders and leaders of Lithuania’s biotechnology industry, Prof. Vladas Bumelis, has ambitious plans for establishing the country as a bio-economy. Jewish Community Proposes Cultural Museum in Vilnius Ghetto

The Lithuanian Jewish Community is proposing the creation of a cultural museum in the former Vilnius ghetto. There are considerations to include an open-air section beyond a single building housing the museum using modern technology. The LJC presented these ideas to Vilnius mayor Remigijus Šimašius Thursday. More
