The President attends EU summit

President Dalia Grybauskaitė attends the European Council meeting on  20-21 October in Brussels. The 28 EU leaders discuss relations with Russia, migration, the ratification process of the EU-Ukraine association agreement, trade with global partners, as well as economic and climate change issues.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė visited Finland

During her official visit to Finland on 18-19 October, President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with President Sauli Niinistö, Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and Speaker of the Finnish parliament Maria Lohela. She also visited Aalto University to get acquainted with the Finnish reform of higher education. Dalia Grybauskaitė and the leaders of Finland discussed the security situation in the region, the threats posed by Russia’s unpredictable neighborhood, nuclear safety, topical EU issues, bilateral relations, as well as cooperation in economic, energy and education sectors.

Minister Linkevičius meets with participants of the Free Russia Forum

On 14 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Russia’s prominent democrats, human rights defenders and civil society representatives, who were taking part in the Free Russia Forum in Vilnius. “I am pleased to see here, in Vilnius, Russian democrats, who are sincerely concerned about the future of Russia that will live at peace with its neighbours,” said Linkevičius in his welcome speech. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister noted that the forum proved that charges of Russophobia against Lithuania and other Western countries were fictitious and unfounded. The meeting focused on Russia’s foreign and domestic policy processes, the outcome of the election for the State Duma, artificial impediments facing Russian democratic forces and the threat of propaganda. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister and the Russian democrats discussed aggression in eastern Ukraine, the ongoing conflict in Syria, and prospects for Russia’s relations with the West. More

Winning artist of ACCELERATE CERN Lithuania Julijonas Urbonas presents his work

The winning artist of ACCELERATE /Lithuania Julijonas Urbonas will be presenting his work at Globe of Science and Innovation, CERN, after having finished one month of residency at CERN in September/October 2016. “Having explored the human scale, currently I've become interested in the choreographic dialectics between the macro and the micro dimensions of gravity and I cannot imagine any better place than CERN to explore such topics”, says the artist. ACCELERATE is part of ARTS AT CERN - the leading art and science programme - promoting the dialogue between artists and particle physics. It fosters the creation of new expert knowledge in the arts by extending artists’ practice in connection with fundamental research. More 

 

  

Focus on Lithuanian film in Ukraine

The 46th Kiev International Film Festival Molodist started on 21 October with the participation of Lithuania as a guest country. The programme of the festival will include the latest Lithuanian films and a special section dedicated to the filmmaker Vytautas Žalakevičius. More
