Lithuanian and Estonian unity for security and well-being in the region

President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with the newly elected Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid on 26 October in Vilnius. This visit is one of the first foreign trips made by the President of Estonia since she assumed office on 10 October. The Presidents of Lithuania and Estonia discussed key bilateral, regional and EU issues. Special focus was placed on the security of the Baltic States, energy independence and nuclear safety. According to the President, increasing geopolitical tension and the growing rattling of arms in Kaliningrad require that all countries in the region join their efforts to improve military readiness, secure NATO’s long-term defense planning, develop the will of people for resistance, and seek regional air defense solutions. More

 

  

ECONOMY

Lithuanians will be part of Hewlett-Packard’s revolutionary transformation of the footwear industry

Elinvision, a Kaunas-based company that produces 3D scanners, and the major global IT corporation Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), jointly intend to revolutionize the global footwear industry in the next five to ten years. Other Lithuanian producers are also taking part in the project. “The idea came from HP, which is at the centre of a project developing new, soon-to-be revealed solutions. Our scanner is a small part of an enormous project which covers production, maintenance and infrastructure. There are partners with whom we are developing production technologies and production lines,” says Donatas Valinčius, director of Elinvision, a subsidiary of Elinta. More

 

 

CITCO is expanding: the company will search for finance and law specialists in Vilnius

The CITCO Group of Companies, which provides accounting and corporate secretarial services to hedge funds, private equity and real estate funds, property holding and financing companies, banks and international corporations, is expanding its service centre in Vilnius. In one of the first service centres established in Lithuania, CITCO Vilnius plans to employ a substantial number of additional specialists in the field of finance, accounting and law within a year. “Over almost 10 years of presence in Lithuania, CITCO Vilnius has managed to attract particularly talented lawyers, financial and accounting specialists who interact directly with our international global client base – amongst others: fund managers, managers of international corporations and private investors. Currently, with a team of more than 300 highly qualified specialists, we see a prospect for more growth. Invest Lithuania to evaluate investor attractiveness of infrastructure projects thanks to new role

The government of Lithuania has appointed Invest Lithuania with a new function; to evaluate potential infrastructure projects in terms of their attractiveness to private sector investors. The agency will now be responsible for analysing any Lithuanian infrastructure project whose value exceeds €25 million, before providing recommendations to the government on the likely interest of business partners. This new function for Invest Lithuania has been assigned by the amendment of the rules for the planning, revision, usage, accounting and control of funds earmarked for state investment by the Lithuanian government. More

Lithuanian Days in São Paulo

On 22-23 October in São Paulo, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantvydas Bekešius took part in the Lithuanian Days that marked the following three anniversaries: the 85th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Brazil, the 25th anniversary of the re-establishment of the independence of the Republic of Lithuania, and the 90th anniversary of the Lithuanian migration to Brazil. “Over the decades, the friendship between the two geographically distant countries has developed into a beautiful dialogue, which is based on mutual respect. I am glad that Brazil has taken you in and that you have settled down, and feel safe and well here. However, I would like every Lithuanian to find their way to their Homeland, because they are always welcome in Lithuania. Thank you for preserving your Lithuanian identity and remembering your roots,” Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister welcomed the participants of the event. More
