In Copenhagen, Linkevičius attends the Nordic-Baltic Prime Ministers’ meeting, calls for continued support for Eastern Partnership countries

In the Nordic-Baltic (NB8) Prime Ministers’ meeting in Copenhagen on 2 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, on behalf of Lithuania, called for continued support for the EU’s eastern neighbours. “The experience of the Nordic and Baltic countries and their support are necessary for Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and other Eastern Partnership countries today. The Baltic states have gone a long way toward regaining their independence and implementing reforms, so they have a very good understanding of the current situation and are ready to share their experience both with the Eastern Partnership countries and with donor countries,” said Linkevičius. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister reviewed cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries and called on completing the ratification process of the Association Agreement with Ukraine as soon as possible and on providing visa-free regimes for Ukraine and Georgia. “We must continue the ambitious Eastern Partnership policy,” said the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy. More

FinTech company Moneta International finds a home in Lithuania

FinTech company Moneta International, which provides payment services predominantly for the e-commerce sector through an online platform, has set up its global headquarters in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and is now gearing up for substantial expansion in the near future. Total investment is expected to exceed €1 million, including the Moneta platform and other products under development. Moneta’s investors, who come from Israel, chose to base the company in Lithuania following a lengthy selection process that included visits to six prospective European countries. “Our choice of Lithuania follows a thorough examination of the needs of every start-up company, particularly in the FinTech field: a clear and rational regulatory environment, political stability and confidence in the system, and most importantly, the decision to turn this country into a FinTech superpower – a decision that, unlike in many other countries, is worth much more than the paper it is written on,” said Moneta’s Chairman of the Board Eyal Nachum. More

Tech giant is impressed by Lithuanian-developed technology

The technology giants Intel, Cisco and Google are cooperating with an enterprise that was created in Lithuania – Semseye. It is thought that Semseye’s ground-breaking technology will even have the capacity to change the world. Everything is simple on the internet: the owners of websites can see how many people are reading their website in real time, what they are doing and how much time they spend on the site. As a result, they learn what clients find interesting and what they have to do to attract more visitors. The technology developed by Semseye has created a product that allows the same sort of monitoring to be done in the physical world. The system allows shopping centres, museums, airports and a range of other institutions to calculate the flow of people passing through them and to receive the data digitally. Using this technology, companies can see not only the exact number of people who enter a shop but also how long they spend looking at any one window display and what attracts them most. More

Monument to the murdered Jews is unveiled at the Seventh Fort in Kaunas

On 2 November, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantvydas Bekešius took part in an event to commemorate the memory of the murdered Jews and in the unveiling ceremony of the monument to them at the Seventh Fort in Kaunas. The Seventh Fort was the first concentration camp in Nazi-occupied territories that was established on 30 June 1941. “No monument can fill the void or relieve the suffering of those who lost their loved ones at the Seventh Fort and throughout Lithuania during the Holocaust. As we honour their sacrifices and perpetuate their memory, we recall the painful history and we do our best to make sure that this does not happen again,” said Bekešius. More
