Dalia Grybauskaitė congratulated President-elect Donald Trump of the United States

Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump of the United States of America. According to the President, the United States has consistently supported Lithuania’s freedom and independence, and the friendship between the two states was consolidated for ages to come by courageous and high-principled position of the United States not to recognize the occupation of the Baltic States. According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, Lithuania is convinced that the United States will remain the strongest and closest ally of Lithuania. In her message of congratulations to President-elect of the United States, Dalia Grybauskaitė underlined that Lithuania was ready to continue strengthening transatlantic relations between Europe and the United States, jointly defend the principles of freedom and democracy, implement mutually beneficial projects in the fields of economics, security, energy and other areas, and continue work on the bilateral level, based on the U.S.-Baltic Charter and in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Dalia Grybauskaitė wished the President-elect every success as well as long years of peace, well-being, and prosperity to the United States and its people. More

 

 

Linkevičius: Lithuania thanks the Holy See for its principled stance on Lithuania’s independence

On 7 November in the Vatican, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher and marked the 25th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and the Holy See. “Today, Lithuania thanks You once again for the principled stance 50 years ago that has helped us maintain a hope of freedom. During the annexation period, every sign of support was very important. Your principled stance and the Holy See’s moral authority are significant also today, as Europe and the whole world are facing challenges related to armed conflicts and the use of force,” said Linkevičius. More

Internet speed at Vilnius Airport among the fastest in Europe

According to Rotten Wi-Fi, a start-up that assesses the speed of public Wi-Fi, Vilnius International Airport is one of Europe’s best airports for Wi-Fi speed. Lithuania’s main airport ranked second in Europe for the average data transmission speed of its free internet network. The Invest Lithuania Free Wi-Fi network is a joint project between Vilnius International Airport and the foreign investment development agency Invest Lithuania. According to the agency, adding its name to the Airport’s Wi-Fi network has boosted its profile, encouraging prospective investors to contact the agency and subsequently consider the possibility of setting up operations in Lithuania. One success story from this project is US tech company Revel Systems. After discovering Invest Lithuania thanks to this Wi-Fi network, they decided to establish an office in Vilnius and now employ over 100 highly-qualified specialists. More

 

Lithuanian laser capabilities presented to Airbus DS Optronics

On 9 November, a delegation representing Lithuania’s Laser and Engineering Technologies cluster (LITEK), Lithuanian Laser Association and Lithuanian laser companies visited the Headquarters of Airbus DS Optronics (Pty) Ltd. in Irene, South Africa. During the meeting, the structure of Lithuanian laser community, capabilities and products of the represented companies – Eksma, Optolita (EKSMA Optics), Ekspla, ELAS, Lidaris, and Quantum Light Instruments – were presented and prospects for further cooperation were discussed. Airbus DS Optronics (Pty) Ltd., became a joint venture between Airbus Defense and Space and Denel (South Africa’s state-owned aerospace and defence technology conglomerate) in 2012. Airbus DS Optronics (Pty) Ltd. develops, designs and produces state-of-the-art optronic devices for military, security and civilian applications. More
