The President was paying his first visit to Brussels
 

During the first working visit to Brussels, President Gitanas Nausėda visited the European Parliament, NATO headquarters, the European Commission, the European Council and Lithuanian Permanent Representations to the EU and NATO.

The President met with the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Junker, President-elect of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President-elect of the European Council Charles Michel.

Virginijus Sinkevičius at the Krynica Economic Forum: The digital economy is Europe’s chance to avoid recession


Minister of the Economy and Innovation Virginijus Sinkevičius, which is participating in the 29th Krynica Economic Forum, has said that Europe immediately needs a united and coherent digital policy in order to maintain its positions globally.

According to Minister Sinkevičius, the growth and business development of the European single market must be based on innovation, digitisation and artificial intelligence.

Japan is Lithuania’s key partner in Asia


Deividas Matulionis, First Deputy Chancellor of the Government, has had a meeting with President of the Japan BioIndustry Association, Osamu Nagayama.
The First Deputy Chancellor of the Government has pointed out Japan’s importance as one of Lithuania’s key partners in Asia, with the 10-fold increase in trade volumes over the last decade (from 38.82 million eurosin 2010 to 355.2 million euros in 2018). He has also noted the shared approach to the values and global issues. 
Science partnership between Lithuania and Japan has earned a particular attention. According to Deividas Matulionis, Japan is among Lithuania’s key partners in science, technology and innovation.

After a 17-year break, Lithuanian feature films came back to the Venice Film Festival


Lithuanian filmmakers return to Venice: after a long break, Lithuanian titles and names will be heard at the main program of the film festival.Two feature films celebrating authors and talents are featured at the festival’s program this week.

This year “Parthenon” (lit. Partenonas) by Mantas Kvedaravičius will be competing at the Film Critics’ Week. The film belongs to a hybrid genre of fiction and documentary and is a co-production between Lithuania (Studio Uljana Kim, Extimacy Films), Ukraine (Esse Production House) and France (Rouge International).

Visitor Centre of the Seimas will open to the public
 

In September, beginning with the autumn parliamentary session the Visitor Centre opens its doors. The guided tours organised in the Seimas to this day will be complemented by various educational activities, lectures and discussions, which will provide the public with a deeper insight into the history of parliamentary development, activities of modern parliaments, and legislative procedures. The Centre will also host meetings with members of the Seimas.

Inbound tourism growth to Lithuania in H1 2019 highest in 5 years


A total of 831,000 foreign arrivals – a spike of 9.25% – was recorded in H1 2019, the highest in the past five years. The number of domestic and foreign tourists who travelled in Lithuania with at least one overnight totalled 1,750,000 or 11.30% more than in the same period in 2018.

German tourists remain in the lead among foreign tourists visiting Lithuania. Record number of tourists from France and continuing growth in inbound tourism from Ukraine, United Kingdom and Finland.
