A better world can only be achieved through full participation of women

President Dalia Grybauskaitė attended the state funeral of Shimon Peres, former President of Israel and Nobel Peace Prize winner. She brought a pebble from Lithuania as a token of remembrance in accordance with the Jewish tradition. 

“Israel lost its founding father, the world lost a great peacemaker and visionary, and Lithuania lost a close friend and countryman,” the President said. More

 

 

Foreign Minister Linkevičius thanked Iceland for its courage to recognise Lithuania’s independence

Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius together with his colleagues from Latvia and Estonia visited Reykjavik on 25-26 September on the invitation of Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttirto and took part in the events and meetings to mark the 25th anniversary of reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Iceland and the Baltic states. Minister noted that Iceland was the first country to recognise the state of Lithuania and expressed his gratitude to the people of Iceland for their support and solidarity on Lithuania’s road to freedom, democracy, and establishment of full-fledged statehood. More

 

 

 

Representatves of Lithuanian insitutions and companies train to respond to cyber incidents at Exercise Cyber Shield 2016

On September 27 the first Lithuania’s national cyber security exercise Cyber Shield 2016 took off. Representatives in leading positions of Lithuanian state, cyber incident management and investigation, information resources management, scientific, energy, communications operators, and other agencies, practice responding to cyber incidents during the part of the exercise concerning procedures on the first day. More

President awards Jewish rescuers

On 28 September, President Dalia Grybauskaitė awarded the Life Saving Cross to those Lithuanian citizens who despite grave danger to their families and themselves saved Jews from the Nazi genocide during World War II. Forty four persons were decorated posthumously. More

 

Stairs of Czesław Miłosz unveiled in Vilnius

On 26 September in Vilnius, stairs dedicated to Czesław Miłosz, writer and Nobel Prize winner, who lived in Vilnius, were unveiled. Poetry fragments by Miłosz are inscribed on the stairs in Lithuanian and Polish languages. The information boards in Lithuanian, Polish and English about the writer were also presented at the event.
