Lithuania Celebrates 99 Years of Restored Statehood

Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaite has extended congratulations to the nation of Day of Restoration of State, urging people to remain strong and unbreakable. "I congratulate everyone on February 16 – the birthday of restored state! Lithuania walked an honorable path of 99 years to this day, withstood all tests, did not break down and stood up strong. This is the biggest achievement of our nation," Grybauskaite said on Thursday. More

 

  

OECD Deputy Secretary-General Douglas Frantz: Lithuania is a leader among countries seeking to join OECD

Lithuania is a leader among countries seeking to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), said the OECD Deputy Secretary-General Douglas Frantz, who is visiting Vilnius on 13 February. Lithuania’s progress and essential tasks were discussed in the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius. More

 

 

Baltic Defence Ministers agreed on an easier movement of NATO forces

The Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian Defence Ministers met in Brussels on February 17 and signed a joint communique to facilitate movement of allied forces in the region and simplify related bureaucratic procedures concerning NATO enhanced Forward Presence troops deploying into the Baltic states and Poland. More

Devbridge Group expands Lithuanian office and Sourcery Academy

Devbridge Group recently celebrated the opening of its new office in the capital of Lithuania to accommodate a growing team of highly skilled IT professionals. The new office is now home to more than 70 developers and quality assurance specialists and the company plans to hire an additional 100 staff per year. More  

 

Forecast: Insurance market to keep growing strong this year on account of non-life insurance development

Lithuania’s insurance market, following last year’s one-tenth increase in terms of insurance premiums, will grow less strongly, to increase by 6–7 per cent. Stronger development is projected for the non-life insurance market, while the life assurance market is pending a decline, forecasts the Bank of Lithuania. More

Vilnius Invites the World to Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Restoration of Lithuanian Statehood with the Sound of Trumpets

One year before the proclamation of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuanian statehood in Vilnius – from this 16th February until 16th February next year, daily at 19 hours 18 minutes – trumpet player Laurynas Lapė and his students will perform the composition “Dear Lithuania” for Vilnius residents and guests from the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. In this musical way, residents of Vilnius are getting ready for the centenary of the restoration of statehood of Lithuania and guests of the city can discover this important upcoming anniversary. More  

  

 

Novozymes Prize goes to the Lithuanian Professor V. Šikšnys

The 2017 Novozymes Prize is being awarded to Emmanuelle Charpentier, Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin, Germany, and Virginijus Siksnys, Professor and Head of the Department of Protein–Nucleic acids Interactions at the Institute of Biotechnology of Vilnius University in Lithuania. More
